Nicholas Wright
Co-Artistic Director 1975-1977.
Nicholas joined the Royal Court as Casting Director before becoming the first director of the Theatre Upstairs in 1969. From 1975 to 1977, he was Co-Artistic Director of the Royal Court along with Robert Kidd. He joined the National Theatre as Literary Manager in 1984 and was an Associate Director until 1998. He is also a playwright.

Libretto for the opera The Little Prince (music by Rachel Portman), premiered by Houston Grand Opera in 2003; libretto for the television opera Man on the Moon (music by Jonathan Dove), shown on Channel 4 in 2006. Also, three episodes of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, transmitted by the BBC in 2009. Writing about the theatre includes 99 Plays, a personal selection from Aeschylus to the present day and Changing Stages, co-written with Richard Eyre.
