Theatre design workshops with the V&A and award-winning designer Ultz
The Royal Court Theatre will be teaming up with TheatreLab at the V&A to offer secondary students a special opportunity to take part in a one day theatre design workshop. In the morning your students will meet experts at the V&A to explore the principles behind set design and examine original film and set models in the Theatre and Performance galleries.

After lunch they will visit the Royal Court Theatre, find out how award-winning designer Ultz (Jerusalem, Off the Endz) developed the set for the current production of Chicken Soup with Barley and create their own set design model for the theatre’s stage.

Making Strides

In collaboration with the Jewish Museum
Your group will learn about the historical context of the play Chicken Soup with Barley. The workshop is run jointly with the Jewish Museum, and will explore the Cable Street riots, Trade Unions and key themes within the play. Your group will then watch the production.

Production workshop at the Royal Court

We offer pre-show workshops to give students an exciting introduction to the play that they are about to watch. All workshops are held onstage and led by professional theatre practitioners. Three types of workshops are currently available for Chicken Soup with Barley: Rehearsing at the Royal Court, Performing at the Royal Court, or Backstage at the Royal Court.
