2012 Study Days
Royal Court in a Day
An imaginative Study Day that explores the inner workings of the UK’s leading new writing theatre. Royal Court in a Day follows the journey of a play from an early script meeting to production and provides fascinating insight into the development, rehearsal and performance of contemporary plays.
Before the Study Day, students are asked to read three short plays that have been submitted to the Royal Court by leading writers. The day begins with a Royal Court script meeting in which students discuss the plays, before selecting one to receive a full production at the theatre. This is followed by a dramaturgical workshop on the selected play, examining how the plot, structure and characterisation might be developed in its next draft. In the afternoon, students rehearse and perform an extract from their chosen play under the direction of a member of the Royal Court Education team.
