Brazil
Since 1995
The Royal Court has been working with Brazilian theatre makers since Beatriz Bologna attended the International Residency in 1995.
Since then, we have worked with writers and directors in both the UK and Brazil, where we undertook projects in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Salvador between 2001 and 2004. As a result of these projects, the Royal Court presented a week of rehearsed readings in 2003 called New Plays from Brazil.
Also in 2003, Elyse Dodgson and Ramin Gray began working with a group of 19 playwrights in São Paulo and, in 2004, staged readings of six of the plays took place at the Centro Cultural. In the same year, we produced a double-bill of plays, At the Table and Almost Nothing by Marcos Barbosa, as part of the 2004 International Season.
Current work
In May 2010, Elyse Dodgson returned to Salvador de Bahia with director, Rufus Norris, to carry out research into a new, multi-national project.
