Since 1956
The Royal Court’s relationship with French playwrights goes back to 1956, when we produced The Chairs by Eugène Ionesco. More recently, many emerging playwrights have taken part in readings and workshops and attended the International Residency. Christophe Pellet’s One More Wasted Year was produced in the 1997 International Season. We also produced Pauline Sales’ work in 2002.
Current work
As part of the 2010 Rough Cuts season this July, the Royal Court will host the first Literary Ball outside of France. This is an event initiated by the Cooperative d’Ecriture and will involve five French playwrights and five British playwrights: Marion Aubert, Alexi Kaye-Campbell, Nathalie Fillion, Samuel Gallet, Fabrice Melquiot, Nina Raine, Mark Ravenhill, Pauline Sales, Penelope Skinner and Simon Stephens.
