Mexico

In 2005, a third workshop, led by Roxana Silbert, Indhu Rubasingham and Elyse Dodgson, saw the writers collaborate with a group of young directors eager to find ways of working on new plays, and five of the plays were presented as readings at the Centro Cultural Helénico.

In January 2006, six Mexican writers were invited to London for Arena Mexico, a sell-out week of staged readings and other events. One of the participating plays, On Insomnia and Midnight by Edgar Chías, was then presented in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs before transferring to the Cervantino International Festival and the Centro Cultural Helénico in Mexico City. In 2007 a volume of the five plays presented as part of Arena Mexico was published by Nick Hern Books .

Also in 2007, Elyse Dodgson, Chloe Moss and Simon Stephens started work with a new group of emerging Mexican writers, supported by the Anglo Mexican Foundation . In 2008, Chloe Moss and Simon Stephens returned to Mexico to continue the project and Elyse Dodgson returned to Mexico City accompanied by playwright Mike Bartlett and Royal Court Associate Director Ramin Gray. In December 2009, seven of the plays were given staged readings at the Centro Cultural Helénico in Mexico City.
