USA

Since 1956

The first American plays to be presented by the English Stage Company were The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Member of the Wedding by Carson McCullers in 1956 and 1957 respectively. In the 1960s, we presented the UK premieres of the early work of Edward Albee and Adrienne Kennedy. The New York Open Theatre came in as a visiting company in 1967 with Jean Claude van Italie’s American Hurrah, co-directed by Joseph Chaikin.
