The Royal Court Theatre and Joint Stock Theatre Group present
Cloud Nine
By Caryl Churchill
First Performance: 29 March 1979
Theatre Downstairs
Now a modern classic, Cloud Nine came into being at the height of the 1970s Women’s Movement. An exploration of sexual politics, the script was inspired by improvisations, interviews and case studies gathered while Caryl Churchill was working as a tutor for the Royal Court Young People’s Theatre Scheme. Co-produced with Joint Stock Theatre Group, it was revived in 1980, transferred to New York in 1981 and has since been staged all over the world.
