Endgame

Endgame was presented in a double-bill with the world premiere of Krapp’s Last Tape. Although it had been performed in French at the Royal Court in 1957, the English-language version provoked conflict with the censor and was initially refused a license on account of blasphemy. When passed, it received mixed reviews with audiences and critics unsure of how to react to Beckett’s ritualistic style. Today, it is considered a classic and is widely regarded as one of his most important works.
