*Harold Pinter returns to the Royal Court to mark the publication of a new edition of VARIOUS VOICES – a collection of Pinter essays and anecdotes. *
Harold Pinter will be signing copies of Various Voices in the Royal Court Bookshop following the event.
Harold Pinter’s plays are lauded the world over but, until now, little has been gathered together of his other writings. VARIOUS VOICES presents a wealth of material and a multiplicity of form in which to enjoy the crystal clarity of language and style which marks out Pinter as a true original. Through VARIOUS VOICES the reader can trace Pinter’s development from a nascent writer exploring the boundaries of his craft to the assured maturity of his later work.
_’Various Voices, the first collection of Pinter’s prose and poems to span his whole career, is a wonderful book that not only emphasises the versatility of his genius but also gives a portrait of the compassionate individual behind the myth of the difficult author.’ _Times Educational Supplement
‘Obligatory reading for anyone who values and enjoys original and intelligent writing.’ Sunday Telegraph
_’His concern for language and his moral force coalesce and give some of his political writing a rare power . . . It is a journey of heart, mind and spirit.’ _Financial Times
_’Various Voices is an engrossing collection of prose and verse and should be obligatory reading for anyone who values and enjoys original and intelligent writing . . . the directly political pieces are written with the clarity and anger of a latter-day Swift.’ _Sunday Telegraph
‘A taut polemic of which Orwell would have been proud.’ Observer
‘His spare, honed prose, prose fiction and poetry are beautiful.’ Mail on Sunday
Harold Pinter was born in London in 1930. He is married to Antonia Fraser. In 1995 he won the David Cohen British Literature Prize, awarded for a lifetime’s achievement in literature. In 1996 he was given the Laurence Olivier Award for a lifetime’s achievement in theatre. In 2002 he was made a Companion of Honour for services to literature and in 2005 he received the Wilfred Owen Award for Poetry.
