The Royal Court Theatre presents
The Contractor
By David Storey
First Performance: 20 October 1969
Theatre Downstairs
Written in just five days, The Contractor both baffled and fascinated critics. Its simple plot is based around the erection and dismantling of a marquee for a wedding party and, each night, the audience watched as a large tent was put up and then taken down again. It has been noted for testing the boundries of dramatic convention.
